Which Table is Mine?

Perhaps the best lesson I have learned from playing Poker is that I don’t have to be skillful of the game to win. I just need to be better than my opponents.

My friends always say that a poker player is considered good if he is able to win the pot at the end of the session. But I say otherwise. Getting in the “good player” category does not merely mean winning at one game. It means winning constantly over a period of time. Winning depends less on a player’s skill, but more on the lack of skill of the other players. The key here is to find who’s who—who the new and weak players are and who are the strong ones.

When I was new to poker, I play on any table I want. If I see the play is good, I sit in the table. If the players are good, I step away. But as I played more and more, I found out that I can’t go on playing at any table. I have to carefully choose the table I will play to maximize my winnings. Be it in online or in a live Holdem game, the right table selection is essential. So, how do I choose the right table? Here’s my simple yet valuable tips for you.

If you are new at Poker Games, you have to choose the table where the players are less skillful than you. How do you do this? If you are playing in a casino, don’t rush in sitting in a table. Step back for a while and watch several plays. This will give you an idea of the player’s skill in the table. And if you see that they are better than you, you might not want to sit there. Now, in Online Poker it’s quite a different story. You don’t see the tables or the players. So, what you should do is look through the lobby and choose the table that catches your interest. You will now have access to game information such as average pot and hands played each hour. This will give an idea on which table is best for your skill.

When choosing table, be it online or in a casino, the important thing you should consider is the number of hands played each hour. You must pick out the table that has the highest hands played, so you get lots of chance to win money. Also, choose looser tables as players in these tables are not so particular with theirs hands; hence, sessions are played faster. To easily find a loose table, check out the percentage of players seeing the flop. The more players see the flop, the better.

Also, take note of the players and tables in the casinos or rooms you have played. If you keep track of their record, you will know which players and Poker Rooms to avoid and determine how to take money and find the players you can defeat.
